Why do atheists continue to perpetuate this myth about macro/microevolution?

True, the terms were coined by Yuri Filipchenko in 1927. The terms continue to be used by many in mainstream science; e.g. Jerry Coyne, Berkley http://evolution.berkeley.edu/evolibrary/article/e... and in the edX course I took on Human Evolution through Wellesley College (ANTH207x).

Those who claim the terms are mainly being used - incorrectly - by creationists, need to read a bit more widely.

The terms are not particularly well defined and speciation can fall in either category. Many Creationists prefer not to use the terms but they a still a useful broad categorization.

While some say that macro is supposed to be nothing more than accumulated micro it is easy to show cases where this is not so. A simple case is putting a black ram in a flock of white sheep. Over time there will certainly be a change on allele frequencies and a change in wool colour (microevolution) but this will never add up to anything more significant such as speciation, let alone the formation of a new genus (macroevolution).

Yes, we know you didn't make the words up. Very few people actually believe that - usually people who argue without being experts. Nevertheless, 99% of the time when those words are used, especially here on Yahoo Answers, they're being used - incorrectly - by creationists to tell lies.

There are lots of actual, scientific words that creationists use to tell lies. Words like evolution, genetics, fossils, flood, carbon dating, and so forth. Just because we all share the same vocabulary doesn't change the simple and obvious fact that creationists use the words to tell massive, obvious, and pathetic lies, while scientists use them to tell truth.

As exhibit A, I offer this very question.

According to almost every atheist here, these terms were made up by Creationists who just wanted to make it sound like they're accepting some science while rejecting some of it.

- Because they keep using it to "prove" one and deny the other. Yes, there may be macro/micro evolution but the ONLY difference is time, they are BOTH evolution.

- YES WE DO, because fundies deny one exists. If we say it enough maybe intelligence will sink in, we are ever hopefull.

I was indoctrinated in school just like they were. PLUS I SAW DINOSAUR BONES in the museum. Pretty strong evidence for the theory.......

And then I met Jesus (age 42).

My FIRST question, when I found out Jesus was real (in an encounter that rivals ANYTHING in scripture), was 'WHAT ABOUT THE DINOSAURS!!!????!!!!'

I ASKED.

And I was shown.... through SCIENCE itself.... I was shown.

Why are there fossils? Fish and animals rot or get eaten when they die. They DON'T magically turn into rock.

Do you know how fossils are made? Silica in the sediment (through water) penetrates the tissues of plants and animals in an extreme pressurized environment.

All fossils were made during the flood - buried in sediment under billions of tons of water for a year.

And those dinosaurs? Well that's more intense. The word means 'fierce lizard' (coined in the 1800's from two Greek words). Lizards live in hot climates. The whole world, pre flood was subtropical. EVERYTHING lived ten times longer..... with 50% more oxygen (which is where most of the H2O came from for the flood itself) everything healed quicker, like living in a hyperberic chamber.

A full grown iguana grows to 6 + feet NOW..... if you can imagine what they were like back then....

Oh.... and btw: those tiny little arms? The result of the serpent being cursed to crawl on it's belly.... reverse evolution if you like.

Also, this is RADICAL EVOLUTION: God can raise children for Abraham from the stones if he wants. He doesn't 'need' us. So if you don't believe what I just said, go on with your life, but know this: God is in the room with you at all times. Do you think the one who made the eye doesn't see? Of course he does. : )

PS. I don't have a problem with science.... I ONLY have a problem with their *perception* of TIME. Once around the planet = one year. They hold up a rock and boldly claim that it has spun around the sun billions of times. Do they not SEE how they look to any reasoning person? C'mon..... that's why I loose respect for them.... they claim they can tell you what happened billions of years ago, but they can't tell you what will happen tomorrow. Pffft.

I never said that. Even scientists sometimes (very rarely) write about macroevolution. However virtually always biologists call evolution "evolution" without any adjectives. The people who love the words micro and macro are the science deniers who think there is some magical barrier that makes evolution come a complete stop when creatures start looking too different from their ancient ancestors.

As usual the science deniers are wrong about everything and they never know what they're talking about.

Also, the science deniers, for example "David@YourService" are constantly lying about everything. These dishonest uneducated "censored by yahoo" have my contempt.

Microevolution and macroevolution are both the same thing on different time scales. Wait millions of years and microevolution produces new species.

Your question should have been more properly worded "Why do some atheists continue ...?" With more and more scientific findings showing the falsehood of evolution, even atheists are jumping off that sinking pseudoscience ship.
