Thousands of Americans a year are deported from various European countries for overstaying their visa, working illegally or being charged with a crime

Anybody can be deported from any country other than his or her country of citizenship. Such a person will always be deported to his or her country of citizenship.

More to the point: an American can be deported from any country but the United States of America. He will always be deported to the United States of America.

An immigrant is a person who with the permission of the government moved (immigrated) to that country. He can live there as a permanent resident or have become a citizen of that country. I'm an immigrant to the United States. I'm also a US citizen. But I will always be an immigrant here as long as I live because I wasn't born as an American.

Source(s): An immigrant from Europe, I now live on the American Rivera in the charming old mission town San Buenaventura and work as an attorney in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Yes. When you are in another country, you have immigrated from your country into that country, making you an immigrant. Immigrant - n, a person who migrates to another country, usually for permananent residence (as opposed to a "visitor").

If you violate that country's laws, then you may be deported. Immigrants can be deported from the U.S. for breaking laws, or for being illegal (entering the U.S. illegally, therefor, breaking the law).

Yes you can, and technically if you're living there long-term you would be an immigrant. I live in Canada and my family knows a British family very well that move here years ago, and they are considered immigrants. If they caused trouble here, they could be deported, just like anyone else from another country.
