Yes - U.S. troops would be involved from the very first hour of fighting, and in any case South Korea is more than capable of defending its country itself.
North Korea would have to be monumentally stupid to attack South Korea. I'll believe it happening when I see it.

North Korea also knows that it would be the end of the North Korean regime to do so. Those "threats" are mostly for internal consumption. Despots always need to manufacture external "enemies" to justify their repression.
