How much should I charge per hour for babysitting?
I'm 14 and I've been through the Red Cross babysitting course and passed. I'm also a trained life guard and I'm trained in CPR. The going rate where I live is anywhere between 5-10$ an hour. Recently I've been babysitting an parents have been refusing me more than 20$ a day for a 6-9 hour day. That's only 2-3$ an hour which I don't believe to be completely fair. But I don't know. How much should I be charging?

More than that. That is ridiculous. Really, though, I would start at $7 for one child, and $10 for two- per hour. Anywhere above that should be an additional dollar per child per hour. In a day for you with six hours and one child, that should come to $42, and the most (ex. Four kids for nine hours, yikes!) is $12 per hour, totaling up to $108. Those parents are paying you below minimum wage and that is completely unacceptable for 14. If the parents refuse to pay that, stop working for them. Pass out flyers advertising your work and include an email, a short bio and your rate. You could even pass one to the family so that they know your thoughts. If they keep asking you to work but for no raise, sit them down and tell them how difficult your job is, the going rate in the area and that you'll have to stop working for them if you don't get paid more- by hour.
Hope this helps!
