Isn't it ridiculous that in the US the legal drinking age is 21...?

But you can join the army at 18? I've always found it odd that you can't drink alcohol until 3 years after you're legally allowed to go off and possibly get yourself killed.

did you know the legal age was actually 21 before the vietnam war? thats why you can't get dental surgery or drink until you're 21 yrs of age. the only reason why 18 is considered the legal age is because during the viet war, they drafted kids into it.

It USED to be 19 in many states (and it still is in all provinces of Canada). But the FWHA ("Federal Highway Administration") more or less blackmailed states in about 1985 by saying something like "you can make the legal drinking age any you want, but if it's under 21, we won't give you any funding for your roads."

What was even more ridiculous and was changed in the early 1970s was the you could be DRAFTED into the Armed Forces at 18 but weren't allowed to vote until your were 21.
