When the prophet Elijah held a contest with the priests of Baal on Mount Carmel, each group had to build a stone altar upon which to offer a sacrifice, but the test was that only God would set light to the sacrifice. The priests of Baal spent hours crying on their god, cutting themselves etc - nothing happened. When Elijah then prayed to God (having drenched the altar with gallons of water first), fire came from heaven and consumed not only the sacrifice, the wood, and the water, but also burned the stones. That is in 1 Kings 18:38.

It was also common practice for an attacking army to destroy cities, torching it to such an extent that the walls and stone-built buildings collapsed in a heap with evidence of intense fire being seen on the stones - see Nehemiah 4:2.

Finally, stones being burned is used metaphorically in 1 Corinthians 3:12-15, to show Christians how they need to 'build' spiritually for lasting results. It says, "For no-one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light.

It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work.

If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames."
