Get an attorney and work out an agreement that you will pay something toward the bills every month. Then pay something, but not enough to break you. If they take you to court, they can put a lien on everything you own. You might even lose your home. An alternative is to file a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Then you don't pay them, but you lose things like your pension. The only things you can keep are your house and one car.

If you fail to pay and they get a judgment against you, they can levy your bank accounts, seize your car and place a lien on your home. If the judgment is large enough, they can force you to a foreclosure on your home. They can not touch your disability payments.

Move to Alabama, get a drivers license, then apply for a credit card in Florida, then move back home and have no bills in your name for five years.

well, maybe not "all of a sudden" eh? Anyway, you aren't sued until you get a document from the courts---otherwise, you are merely being threatened.

the way to deal with this is open negotiations and stop ignoring it.
