As a swim instructor, I drill them with kicks first. They hold onto the kickboard and practice doing
"In-Out-together". Pay attention that your feet are flexed and not pointed, and make sure your legs are wide apart and straight when doing the "out" part. The motion between the "out" and "together" are very important in your speed and strength. Imagine that it's a whipping motion.
Next, practice doing your kicks without a kickboard using streamline arms. Same idea.
After wards, use your arms. I'm assuming that you know how to fully do the breastroke, but if not, try this: "Pull (arms pushing to either sides in a semi-circle), breathe (arch head back and breathe), kick (in-out-together), glide (streamline arms and legs staight) ". If this is confusing, watching youtube videos.
Keep in mind that your hips should stay parallel to the ground, as with each of your legs. Keep your feet in the water and make sure your arms start from streamline position and sweep to a semi circle and back up to streamline. Watch videos and read articles about more technique. Go to some swim meets (if you're still in school) and observe how your breast stroke differs from a more advanced swimmer and use that to practice.
Here's a nice website I found for ya! http://www.swimming.org/swimfit/competitive-breast...

While iHeartBlueberri♥ is giving little kid swim lessons, I'll give you tips for competitive swimming:
You need an excellent pull down. Your pull down should take you to at least half the pool length. Kick high(doesn't mean kick out of the water), so that your knees could almost reach as high as your waist. Put your hands a little out of the water and don't go too deep, try to stay shallow(not too shallow). Always keep your head down. You should glide, but too much glide will slow you down AND no glide will also slow you down. You need to have a good finish. Most people will either take an extra little stroke to the wall or glide for an extra long time to touch it. What you need to do is dive a little underwater and stretch for the wall. If that takes too long, then take one more quick but strong stroke
and then dive under.
My times in SCY (16 y.o boy):
50 breast split: 26.53
100 breast: 58.79
200 breast: 2:13.55
