What does it mean when a car has a rebuilt title?

From the Auto Trader webstie - "For sale is 2008 Subaru Legacy 3.0R Limited with Navigation and only 49,950 original miles. It is in good condition and has a rebuilt title."

It has been in a bad crash and rebuilt.

Sometimes the insurance company will "write a car off",as they consider it will cost more to repair than its value.

some garages buy these and do the work at cost, then sell them.

The car should be fine, but i personally would not buy one with a rebuilt title

It means its been in a bad wreck and the insurance company totaled it rather than repaired it.

Its worth 30-40% less than an identical car that has never been wrecked.

Forget it. Buy one with a good title.
