First of all you don't ever need to wash clothes in hot water. There is no need for it and it will save you money washing in cold.

The whole "dry clean only" thing is so over rated. I have plenty of dry clean only garments and have never dry cleaned them. No problems- ever.

I cannot imagine a shirt being made so delicately that it needs to be dry cleaned. Just wash it as you normally would, hang it out to dry and then iron. If it's raining, hang it on a hanger inside the house and then iron.

    It will all be okay.

Usually "dry-clean only" means that the garment or its dye will be changed by washing in water. Shrinkage is a common problem if water-washed. Might see color spotting or other such changes, and sometimes the dry-cleaning recommendation is because only a part of the garment will be affected (say, a leather collar).

Clothes marked Dry Clean Only can be hand washed in cold water and dried flat. Click on the link below for detailed instructions. If you just toss it in the washer in hot water it may shrink or loose it's shape and texture and it will wear out faster.

You will need to iron it! Most garments marked dry clean are washable - the label is to cover their backsides when you make a mess of it. If its washed too hot it will kill it though.

Items of clothing marked 'Dry Clean' will most definitely dissolve and and dissapear in water if there is an attempt to wash them, that is why they are 'dry' cleaned. Good for entertainment if you run out of magic tricks though.
