American atheists how on earth do you tolerate Ken Ham and others of his ilk. Why isn't he brought to book?
He regularly cites that we atheists are guilty of rape without giving any proof. Here in the UK he would have fallen foul of the law. How does he get away with it?

We have a different system of laws in the US, regarding slander and libel. Over in the UK (as I understand it) the burden rests on the accused to prove that their statements weren't libelous. Here, though, as the plaintiffs, we'd have to show that Ham's claims were untrue (not difficult), but also that they caused us real emotional, social, or financial harm (which is tougher).
It means that we have to put up with idiots like Ham, unless he *really* pulls out the stops and starts going after specific people or organizations... though, to be fair, he's hardly the most dangerous idiot we have. On the other hand, our legal system makes it harder for dishonest (and financially motivated) groups to stifle legitimate criticism by simply filing a lawsuit, since the burden isn't weighted so heavily against the defendant.

We don't tolerate him. If any Christian uses him as a source for anything, said Christian gets laughed off the face of the planet. As far as I know, most Christians, even, think Ken Ham is a complete joke. I might be wrong about that, but that's the impression I've gotten.

Because he's not committing slander or libel on a specific person who could sue him for it. Maligning a nebulous group like atheists, unfortunately, isn't illegal until he steps over a very specific line into hate speech.

With laughter mostly.
I mean.... if you are ever feeling down, or feeling that you need a "win"....... just watch or read Ken Ham for 5 minutes and you will instantly know that you are considerably smarter than 75% of your fellow Americans.

There is no law that forbids being a complete moron.
And for a complete moron to speak publicly.
He gets out on the technical point of not accusing anyone specific.
It is OK, he gives his followers a bad rep by association; anyone who is a bit balanced would be repulsed by him.

Ken Ham's career is making children as stupid as he is. For this child abuse he belongs in prison. However here in Idiot America this kind of child abuse is considered normal behavior.

Free speech, I'm afraid. Just ignore him, I do.

One bares in my life only that importance which "I" choose to give them. Ham is insignificant as are his opinions.
