Why are people racist?

I know there isn't an exact answer but, I was just asking. At school there's this Caucasian boy who always says I'm a sin because I'm of mixed race and should've never been born. He's been doing it since we were elementary school at first I would get real sad about it but now it just disgust me. My mom says its because we're in the South but I know not every one down here is racist. But Why are some people so racist and against interracial relationships?

People who are racist are simply ignorant but you should avoid politically correct terms which may not be accurate. You called the boy Caucasian but if you simply assume he is based on the color of his skin that too is ignorant, Caucasians are people from the region of Asia near the Caucasus Mountains hence the name Cauc-Asian. If the boy's ancestors are not from that region he isn't Caucasian.

I'm "slightly" racist (mostly against my own race) because I kept encountering the same unpleasant behavior's from them over and over ie getting beat up, laughed at, isolated, and molested . Now I realized that humanity in general is annoying so I became a misanthrope :D Still I

People who say that racism happens only because of ignorance are not really thinking about the problem. You can't solve racism by saying "Oh be open minded, oh your experiences are invalid"

Most people understand that stereotypes do not apply to 100% of a population but nonetheless can have a big impact on how you think of people of that race.

I personally refuse to date anyone in my own race because of my bad casual experiences with them. People can say "Oh get therapy or Oh not everyone is like that or Your _____ race!" But its complex. Its an emotional matter more than a thinking one.

When I see people of my race (who aren't my family of course) makes me afraid that I will be attacked.

    So yeah, I understand racism.

Some *white* people don't like interracial relationships because they feel like people are diluting their "pure" bloodline. What they don't realize is that some half black people in slavery days could pass for white and as a result, got a white wife/husband and lived a "white life" so their ancestors could very well be black.

remind him that he's "mixed race" too. His ancestor came from Africa just like everyone else's. And even if he's lily white, there's a 40% chance he's got a black ancestor in the last 10 generations.

You are in the south, there are many white supremacists there. Just ignore them. They are the ones who are ignorant and clueless. Trying to figure them out would be a waste of time

Humans have a tendency to prefer people who appear to be genetically similar to themselves, and to dislike people who are dissimilar. Even babies exhibit this tendency. However, we have the ability to understand and love people who are different than us, and we have overcome our natural tendencies to replace them with more moral ones, and we lose our racism.

Remind him that you being mixed race is not a sin, but his hatred toward you is. Jesus himself was Middle Eastern, not white. "(In the Kingdom of Heaven) There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." (Galatians 3:28)
