It's been that way since long before I joined. There's a whole lot wrong with that suggestion. Removing the report abuse function, would mean some serious violations including things that are illegal would remain in place. There is no better way to do it. I don't think you would want illegal or even dangerous posts to last for long. Especially those which are harmful to those who are very young or gullible. Granted they're not all caught and taken down right away, but the majority of the most serious are. Anyone who has done a turn, or two at being a moderator, knows what the problems can be, especially if experienced on a fairly large sized site. Due to the size of Yahoo! Answers, Community Moderation is only viable means of moderation. Yahoo! Answers, is larger than most sites, and also has far more activity.
Finally your answer might have been seen as the work of a part of a multiple account setup. Where answers were copied and pasted, or may have even been (this is without knowing the question what the question was) viewed as a non answer. Also the question without knowing it, may have been considered as not knowledge worthy. You just happened to get caught, and most likely along with someone else, or even in a group, that was being hunted, of what can called leveling up accounts. If the question is gone there there is no way to go back and see what, or where you may have gone wrong.
In closing, if I could offer a small bit of advice, when you see a question give more than a single word answer such as yes or no. give something of a qualifier as to why you said yes or no. That way you can avoid the pitfall of getting caught for a possible non answer.

The problem is myself and my friends used to post questions here.
Most got suspended or quit due to a mass clean out around January.
Now questions that were fun years ago and answered by many are reported. If you can access the archives of Polls and surveys look at the 1000's of violations that were part of Yahoo fun.
Is vanilla or chocolate better. You like hotdogs or hamburgers?
Now they are reported for some reason while nasty posts go
Untouched..I posted a poem today.Used to get 10 to 18 answers.
Now zero.Thats why users are mad so they report everyone to get even.

The problem is probably that you are answering questions or polls that are violations themselves. In many cases, answering a violation such as chat, will make your answer chat also. A rules of thumb is that if you are not absolutely sure, never answer a yes/no question.
If you want to know the reason for the violation, post "Why was this question (answer) a violation?" and add the original e-mail you got so the users can see the exact context. The experienced users here will explain it to you.

honestly, its because reporting is more rewarding than spending 15 min answering a Q and never seeing BA assigned to anyone.
sometimes there are no decent questions to answer or have been asked a million times if you look into the reference search box.
plus, users need to learn how to use the Q&A format.
and thus discourage kids from playing games here or looking for something fun to do.
the most common violations are usually those in regards to Chat or Insulting Members / Rant.
