Pixie has a reading comprehension problem.
@Pixie: Everyone knows republicans incessantly blow tax payer money. The question was why you are too cheap to PAY for all of your incessant spending.

Conservatives want reasonable taxes that are used efficiently for necessary government services (including helping those with a real need for temporary assistance). If you go into any government agency's headquarters you won't have to look very hard to see waste. The way government agencies at all levels work is to maximize spending, for example at this time of year agencies go on a spending blitz if it looks like they will have money left over on September 30 (end of fiscal year) so their budgets won't be reduced next year. The buy stuff they don't need just to spend their entire procurement budgets. I know of one agency that has 4 flat screen TVs in each lobby in their headquarters buildings that run 24/7, two usually have CNN on (with no sound) and the other two have agency announcements (such as their weekly farmers market, their annual 5K race, what time daily prayers will be held and bring your kid to work day, all of which can be announce via email). You paid for those TVs and the electricity to run them and they do nothing to contribute to the mission, nor does the "artwork" that you will never see since it's in restricted areas. This are small wastes of money when compared to multiple agencies that are suppose to do the same function (in one case there are two agencies that have the exact same mission but there isn't enough work for both so one of them does nothing), you pay for that! During the "shutdown" last year agencies still operated, they just didn't do things that actually help people, they wanted it to hurt individuals, some agencies even hired people and bought things during the "shutdown", you paid for that! It'ss not a coincidence that 6 of the richest counties in the U.S. are in the D.C. metro area, you pay for that!

Raising taxes doesn't always raise receipts or money being taken in by the government. Additionally sometime lowering taxes increases receipts as it stops business inversion and increases profits to be taxed. It's a balancing act. Screaming the rich people don't pay enough accomplishes nothing.

Today's conservatives are descendants(philosophically) of the mostly white southerners who resent the civil rights movement of the 60's, because it launched an effort by government to assist black, and other minority Americans, with housing, education, and other "welfare", to correct generations of social segregation and subordination.
In other words, they feel their hard-earned money is being given away by government to a bunch of lazy welfare rats. So, they oppose taxation, and government in general.
Thus, we have what Pat Buchanan characterized as a "culture war".

They do but they also know that the highest tax rates are driving the jobs out of the market.
They want taxes at a rate that grows the economy not make it harder than it is now under
the Democrat controlled Senate.

We just like job creation and higher taxes kills job creation. Texas 0% state income tax. California 9.5% for those making over $45,000. Texas creates many GOOD paying jobs. California don't. Debate over.

Why do liberals think that throwing money at problems solves them. I am not aware of any problem government has solved by spending more money on it. In fact I can make a strong argument that the government habit of just mindlessly increasing the budget has created more problems than it solves since this way they can ignore the real causes of the problems in this country.
