If this is your first card, wait till you have at least one year of good payment history before applying for another card. You really do not have enough credit at the 5 month point to qualify for a second card and are more likely to be turned down
Two negative approvals??? Declined credit applications are not reported to the credit bureaus and have no bearing on your score. What does show is the hard inquiry caused by the credit check for those applications. With 3 hard inquiries within your 6 month period, all the more reason to wait.
A second credit card will NOT build your credit any faster. Opening new accounts, in itself, lowers your score. It is not a good idea to open multiple new account within one year.
It really takes years to build good credit. 5 months is almost nothing.

Being in too big a hurry to get credit makes you look desperate and that doesn't look good.
A credit builder loan at a credit union will build credit better than a credit card and it will help force you to save.
The rates are low because there is no risk.
12 installment payments looks better on a credit report than 12 months of credit card payments.

From what I have read, you should not apply to more than 1 card every 6 months. Cumulative inquiries of credit cards compound damage to a credit score.
Opening new cards will not increase your credit score in any way.
It's the way you use the one you have that matters.

I am thinking it is time to apply for a second credit card. I have had my first one for 5 months and it is through my bank. I have always paid on time and in full. i have a $1200 limit and have 2 negative approvals on my record from lack of history.
Do you think I would get approved for a discover card?
