Extra curricular activities?
Basically I'm going into my sophomore year and I need some clubs that will look good on college apps. I'm not into sports but I do debate, journalism, and navy rotc. I'm also in honors classes and I'm thinking about doing National Honor Society. What else should I do?

You should do things that you enjoy, not just because they look good on paper.
However, this might not be your thing but one club I really enjoy is Destination Imagination, the easiest way to explain it is it's basically a competitive creative problem solving team that performs a skit against other teams. There is also a huge technical aspect and you see tons of teams with pretty complex mechanical devices, structurally complex props and science. Also, it has the potential to last all year round *if* you make it to nationals which is extremely difficult, if that matters at all. It's definitely not a short term commitment.
So basically regardless of whether you're a drama geek/science team person you could end up liking it. I've been doing it for 8 years now. Just a thought. But you should definitely try to stick with a couple things you are really, really committed to instead of trying to cram in as many extracurricular as possible.
Also, I forgot to add. DI offers scholarships sometimes. I saw a senior girl at the state level get handed a check for $20,000.
Are you involved in music at your school? That would look really good.

Do something that you enjoy not to buff up your resume. Let's be honest here, you join so many clubs but it wouldn't matter unless you have a leadership position in the club. Make your own club if you want with something you're passionate about. Trust me, I joined a club and hated it. Even though I can work my butt off to become the president, it'd be pointless... I HATE it. I joined wrestling and loved it. Find your interests. We don't know your interests so we can't tell you what to join. If you like community service though Key Club is decent but I don't like it because it's just Asians trying to get hours and buffing their resume. Stop thinking about that. Besides, it doesn't matter WHERE you go to college, it's WHAT you do there.

Key Club definitely looks good considering its all about volunteering. But, if you want to look REALLY impressive, you start a club. That's what Ivy Leagues or any University wants to see. Good luck!

Extracurricular activities or Extra Academic Activity (EAA) are those that fall outside the realm of the normal curriculum of school or university education, performed by students. Extracurricular activities exist at all levels of education, from 4th-6th, junior high (or middle school)/high school, college and university education.Such activities are generally voluntary (as opposed to mandatory), non-paying, social, philanthropic (as opposed to scholastic), and often involve others of the same age. Students often organize and direct these activities under faculty sponsorship, although student-led initiatives, such as independent newspapers, are common.
