    1. First, use the 10" to help you solve for x, and use the 50 degrees too.

    2. Use the trigonometric ratio TAN (TAN = OPPOSITE/ADJACENT) to solve for x, where opposite is the side opposite to the angle, and adjacent is the side NOT opposite to the angle.

    Tan X = opp/adj

    Tan 50 = x / 10

    (10)(Tan 50) = (x / 10)(10)

    10 Tan 50 = x

    11.9175359... => 11.9

    The triangle's height is 11.9 inches.

    ---------------------------------------------

    Are you trying to find the TOTAL HEIGHT OF THE FIGURE? Then simply add the 11.9 to the 5 inches to get your overall height.

    11.9 + 5

    = 16.9 inches.

    Given

    y = 10 in.

    Θ = 50°

    Tan Θ = x / y

    Subbing given values,

    Tan 50 = x / 10

    1.1918 = x / 10

    x = 10(1.1918)

    x = 11.918 in.

    x = sqrt(50^2 - 10^2) = 5*sqrt(96)
