the international currency rates of exchange change daily as answered by CMC
australia is not malaysia... cash is safe to carry here
however the best method for travelling is a mixture of cash and a debit card
use your cash to pay for small items like meals
get enough cash from the atm to last a few days
use your debit card to pay for hotels hostels airfares and expensive items

You will pay a small fee for cash withdrawals from ATMs. You could safely carry around up to a thousand dollars in cash. Don t keep it all in one place. The biggest danger is that you will lose it, not theft.

Seriously, you have a thousand bigger problems with your trip planning than what you're going to do for cash.
