Caring for a box turtle?
Okay, so, I rescued a box turtle (fairly large; almost as big as my hand, if not a bit bigger) from our property in Virginia. I'm not completely sure, but from what I've researched it looks like a male.
I plan on taking it back with me to North Carolina (where I live) and caring for it. Since we come to Virginia every weekend, I could take it back to where I found it if I really needed to.
But I don't want any answers saying "just take it back" or any crap like that. It's not currently in the best shape, and wasn't when I found it. It's eaten a bit, and seems to be doing slightly better. But my question; what is the best way to care for it? Best self-made habitat/enclosure (indoor), best store bought food (I can get crickets easily), best way to make them more tame/friendly, etc. again, don't give me that "take it back to where you found it" or anything like that, or I'll flag your answer. Because this is a serious matter in my oppinion, plus, it's not in conditions to let it live on it's own FOR NOW. so please. Give me an actual good answer.

Ok from where I'm from, box turtles are illegal to take from the wild BUT I'm not gonna lecture and I'm going to try to help you to the best of my ability. You can but simple wooden boards from a place like home depo and basically make a wooden rectangle and go to a local pet store and get turtle substrate and get a BIG water bowl to drink out of and to wade inf. Also make sure to get him a heat lamp and UVB lamp. Also get calcium powder from your local pet store and sprinkle it on his food around twice a week. You can feed him crickets and mealworms as well as romain lettuce. They can only have ROMAIN lettuce or else they will get sick. They also like strawberries as treats :) to make it more friendly you can do simple things like sit him next to you on the couch while you watch tv and keep his cage in a place like your living room to get him used to people. I hope that helped :) have fun with the little guy

Taking animals out of the wild is not "rescuing" them. That is a simple fact. Sorry if you think that's crap.
