Looking for science fiction book I read in the 90's?

All I can remember is the main character's father traveled in space and while he was on earth the mc went on the ship and ended up never getting off and traveling with him and his crew (which included aliens). I remember that a week or a month on the ship was equal to like 10 or more years on earth and when they hit jump speed the mc experienced motion sickness. I remember the cafetaria had a computer thing inside the table where you sit and the mc managed to get it to create French fries but they tasted horrible. Also his/her room was empty but he/she had a computer of some kind (like a tablet) that allowed him/her to make certain things appear. So he/she chose a hammock and the hammock had to metal balls at each end, and if you stuck a ball to the wall it would stick and to get it off you had to tug it 3 times. That's all I got
