Question about social security?

A friend of mine has been mentally disabled since she was 18. So she is able to collect social security. She also gets a couple hundred extra because her dad passed away (when she was 19). My friend is now 29 and gets a total of $900 ish. She was wondering if the extra money that she gets from her dads social security will stop once the money has run out? Or does it ever run out?

Your friend will collect social security as long as she is disabled by SSA standards. And she will get a cost of living adjustment each year. For the benefits to stop she must either medically recover from her disability (which is unlikely) or she must work and earn what SSA considered the substantial gainful activity amount for more than 12 months.

jHowever if she were to marry a person who does not collect social security her benefits would stop.

Aside from that she will collect as long as she lives.

If the money ever runs out then the payments will stop.

There is a lot of money in the plan. It will take a long time for it all to be spent.

Expect changes overtime and how much you pay in and what you can take out. The condition of 50 years ago when the plan was set up have changed.

What goes in and comes out will need to change too.

That survivor benefit was supposed to stop at age 18.

I don't think anymore money will be going into her dads social (given he is deceased)
