Has the United States done anything to repay Vietnam since the conflict in the mid 20th century?
With all the the destruction of villages, deforestaion, and use of chemical agents, one would expect the aggressor which in my opinion was the United States and also loser of the conflict to have to pay for the reconstruction, treatment of the disabled (including children who were born with defects due to the chemical agents used), etc.
I really have no knowledge as to what the U.S. has done since the conflict and I am not attacking anyone. I also believe that the treatment of the returning veterans from this engagement was horrendous. These were young men that (not all but many) were forced into this combat situation to face death in every direction.

We already provide foreign aid for Vietnam and we've become a large trading partner, what else should we do?
We never used chemical weapons in Vietnam, we used agent orange which was a herbicide that was originally thought to be harmless to humans.
The 1973 Paris Peace accords had no article or concession involving reparations, and since North Vietnam reneged on that treaty we owe them even less.

Why should we pay our enemy anything? Keep in mind that the only reason the US "lost" was that North Vietnam reneged on the Paris Peace accord and reinvaded the South after the US troops had pretty much all left - and Congress at that time refused to recommit to defending Saigon.

Since that wasn't addressed in the Paris Peace Accords of 1973......NO.
Since North Vietnam broke the peace and took Saigon in 1975 (2 yrs after the US withdrawal)....NO

That is too bad for the Vietnamese.
When the USA defeats someone they are treated well. Look at what we did for Japan and Germany.
But if we do not accomplish our objectives we take our toys and go home.
The US owes Vietnam nothing.

Repay them for what? South Vietnam was a democratic nation and North Vietnam wanted to turn them communist. They won. Why should we apologize and pay them because they wanted to go communist?
