Want to upgrade my computer 32 bit computer to 64 bit.?

Update:

I want to upgrade my computer and feel the best way to do this would be to replace the processers and Mother board. What can I keep?

Optical CD/DVD/HDDVD/Blu-ray drive?

2 500 gb hard drives?

NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT video card?

4gb ram but computer only sees 3 (windows 7 32 bit)?

Power supply (>300 watts - original was replaced when I had the video card replaced)?

TV tuner?

You cannot upgrade from 32 to 64 unless you computer is already 64bit. For example a 64 bit machine will run a 32 bit os and you would just install a 64 bit version to "upgrade". If the machine is 32 bit you can't just make it 64 bit you would need to buy a new one or change the motherboard etc. One thing that might help you is that if your machine has more than 4GB of ram it is probably a 64 bit machine if not it is most likely 32bit.

Don't bother unless there is a pressing need. The only functional difference, if I remember correctly, between 32 and 64 bit is the amount of ram that the system can access. Also, laptops are difficult to upgrade. Hopefully, you mean upgrading a desktop. Upgrading will likely mean purchasing a whole new computer. You'll need a 64 bit processor with a compatible motherboard. If your computer is more than 5 years old (as it probably is if 32 bits) you'll also need new DDR3 RAM. You'd also likely have to invest in a new (64 bit) Operating System.

    1) The CPU must be 64bit.

    2) You will need to buy a 64bit Windows.

    3) Install at least 4GB ram or more.

    4) There is no practical reason to unless you need to utilize more than 3.25GB.
