"i have thickish hair and i have a lot of it and it comes past my collarbones and it is healthily heat trained "
First of all, heat & chemicals = hair's worst enemies. It's healthy NOW, but in the long run . . .
For more on straightening hair, read what others have said about their hair, their OWN WORDS not mine: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AiBDu...
And the latest Example from YA!
"I've experienced crucial hair loss from straightening my hair for several years, possibly even scarred my hair follicles in certain areas. I'm wondering if it will grow back and if there's anything I can do to speed up the process."
Google: Shocking video shows the damage hair straighteners can do
It takes 20 years of bad hair days, for women to figure out what to do with their hair, and it takes 20 years of trying to fix it, using various hair products that can do more harm than good. It is part of a billion dollar business.
Second of all: I do not recommend using hair extensions to thin hair, thinning hair, trying to grow hair or Afri-Amer. hair. They only weakens healthy hair!
Example: I have sewn in hair extensions. My natural hair is neck-length, and these extensions are down to my chest. They're sewn in (if you didn't already know) with black tracks, while the hair is my natural hair colour: brown. But I want to have it up in a high-ish ponytail. But, obviously, the tracks are really obvious. How can I make them less obvious?
I hate having to have my hair down all the time. I've always wanted it, but now I'm getting bored. :/
Example from Jennifer Aniston: "It was about 100 percent humidity, so the frizz factor was through the roof. I brought along Living Proof products with a healthy skepticism. I wore a half-wig on this film, and the girl who was washing the hairpiece wasn’t using my shampoo. So we would go outside and the rest of my hair would be totally tame and perfect, and the top [wig] part — which I called my toupee —would just start to look like pubic hair. It would take on a whole new texture of its own.”

Did your mother ever say, "You get what you pay for"? When it comes to hair extensions, she is right.
Armed with a hidden camera, the WMC Action News 5 Investigators visited several beauty and wig stores to see if Remy hair extensions could really be purchased for a fraction of the cost.
In one store, a package that was labeled "Remy-quality, 100% human hair" was found for less than $20. When asked, the clerk admitted to us it was not human hair. The clerk said anything under $20 is anything but Remy. The clerk said the package was actually a blend. He also said customers can become confused.
The clerk said it could not be human hair despite what the packaging said on a Wink weave purchased from the Vivica A. Fox hair collection.
When it was put up against a curling iron...
"It's not 100 percent human hair. The hair has melted," said Covington-Windom.
Traction alopecia is hair loss that occurs as a result of continuous pulling of the hair. Pulling may occur from hairstyles such as tight cornrows, plaits or braids with or without extensions, weaves, ponytails or even hair rollers or curlers. Natural hairstyles can also lead to traction alopecia as well. Long heavy locks and tightly coiled twists can lead to traction alopecia. The hair loss associated with traction alopecia typically occurs at the frontal hairline, at the temples or the area of the scalp above the ears. It may also occur at the posterior hairline. http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=utf-8&fr=aaplw&p...
"Hair extensions can cause some damage to your real hair," says Placid Braganza, a design artiste. "Since they are attached using thermal heat, knotting, braiding or gluing, they can hamper hair roots or even break, split or burn hair strands if not done carefully," he adds.
Published 8-10-12: Even supermodels have bad hair days, but from the looks of this recent photo, Naomi Campbell appears to be dealing with something far worse.
A photo of the 42-year-old beauty vacationing in Ibiza earlier this week shows what appears to be a receding hairline.
Florida hair surgeon Dr. Alan Bauman, who has not treated Campbell, said the former supermodel appears to be suffering from traction alopecia — hair loss due to extensions.
“Extensions, weaves, anything artificial hanging on hair — no matter whether you attach it with glue, special magnets, tape — it’s going to cause damage over time,” Bauman told ABCNews.com. “And unless you give your hair a break from those extensions, it won’t rebound.”
