How to find those who want to help?
My husband had a massive stroke on 6/20/14. He is in a nursing home and can no longer work. We are waiting on his SSI. As many know, SSI is slow and bills don't stop. I am disable as well due to Degenerative disc Disease and Psoriatic Arthritis. I have a site for people to donate to, I just need to find those who are willing to help. http://www.gofundme.com/d7ztlw Gofundme link. Any ideas? Thank you.

Share your site w people you know and ask them to share w people they know.
SSI in this case should not take very long. Speak w the social worker at the nursing home. Getting these things through promptly is their job because the home depends on Medicare and Medicaid to pay them. They are very good at getting paid. Tell them you want to be considered as a "deprived spouse" meaning that any monetary benefits come to you while medical benefits go to the nursing home. If you are getting food stamps etc be sure that you report changes in income and in the number of people in your home. This may lower your stamp benefit but saves trouble later. Meanwhile most every community has help resources, Contact the nearest United Way for a list of help resources in your area or do a web search for help resources + your county or city and state (for ex help resources Atlanta, GA)., Also see www.feedingamerica.org and look up food pantries near you. Many of these organizations will help in other ways and will know who else helps in your community. No one place will me4et all your needs and most help once or twice in a year only w things other than food but it can help you get by till you have money coming in

If he was working, he would get SSDI, not SSI, which is welfare.
If he is in a nursing home, SSDI would be approved in just a few months.
Check your mailbox, it was probably already approved.
