Can an HDMI Cable be disconnected without first shutting off the computer ?

    Not the best practice but things seem to work fine if you do.

    I believe that started with transistors in the circuit were seeing power at the wrong time without all intended connections complete. Early on circuits and especially cmos chips included clamping diodes on their inputs routing unwanted power to the rails.
