Yeast infection?

I don't know if I have a yeast infection. I am 13 and i am a virgin. I have been itching and burning down there for a while. It's happened before but it went away and now after I got my period this month (I've had it for 3 years now) I got really itchy and it burns again. I had like a couple really small bumps but they went away a couple days ago. I recently read about having discharge and a sort of smell to the discharge but I thought that was normal. I'm way too afraid to ask my older sister to take me to the gynecologist (don't have a mom to ask). I just want to know if this is a yeast infection, and if it's normal for a 13 year old (virgin) girl to get one?

Certainly you can get a yeast infection whether you are a virgin or not.

Were you recently on antibiotics for something? That is the most common reason for getting a yeast infection. The antibiotics would have killed off all the good bacteria along with the bad, and that throws the balance of everything out, leaving a perfect breeding ground for a yeast infection.

Other causes of yeast infections can be poor air circulation around your private area. Underwear that is made of synthetic material is a big problem, you should always always wear cotton or at the very least cotton lined underwear.

Another major contributor is wearing clothes that are tight/restrictive of the private area. That area needs to have good ventilation, which it can't get if you are always wearing tight clothing. Once in a while is no big deal but if you are constantly wearing tight jeans for example, then you are probably going to have a problem with yeast infections.

Of course another big cause, which doesn't apply to you if you are a virgin, is having sex with a person who has not cleaned himself properly. This is very common among uncircumcised males, if they do not clean their penis properly and thoroughly, then the bacteria in the folds of skin can easily end up in your vagina and cause you to have yeast infections.

This can also happen orally. A yeast infection in the mouth is called "thrush" and presents as a milky film on the inside of the cheeks and tongue. No matter what area of your body a yeast infection starts, it will gravitate to the other area if left untreated and in fact spread throughout your body.

It is very important that you get yourself to a doctor to be diagnosed. It is very important to try to determine what could be causing the issue. I have only listed the most common causes, there could also be other medical issues going on with you that can only be determined by a doctor.

Whatever you do, do not just assume it is a yeast infection and go buy over the counter remedies for it, it could be your body trying to tell you something more significant is going on, so please see a doctor as soon as possible.

Seems to be. Here are the symptoms: Burning, redness, and swelling of the vagina and the vulva

    Pain when passing urine

    Pain during sex

    Soreness

A thick, white vaginal discharge that looks like cottage cheese and does not have a bad smell

    A rash on the vagina

Cream and tablets are the treatment. You should see a doc its common and not a big deal
