How to reference ancient sources?
I'm doing an assignment at the moment and my tutor has said I need to reference ancient sources such as the Res Gestae by Augustus in text. She has given me an example using Cassius Dio which is:

But I'm not too sure how to do this for Augustus' Res Gestae, if any of you could help thtat would be great! Thanks

Not sure I really agree with your tutor on this, so I am not going to be much help.
You should credit the translator - especially as there are several editions - you are not quoting the Latin original, I assume (or Greek in the case of Cassius Dio). You are telling your reader where you got your evidence - her reference is rather vague - presumably this takes you to 43rd line in the 53rd volume.
A well-known one is Gagé, Jean (1935), Res gestae divi Augusti ex monumentis Ancyrano et Antiocheno latinis, Paris. Reference your page number as you would any other source.
