are there government assistance programs that pay for additions to your house?

My neighbors receive government assistance for their mortgage- food - daycare- yet they are planning on building an extension on their house-

    How you know that much about your neighbors I don't know. But it's still awfully nosey of you. Gov't assistance for mortgages isn't exactly common or is it really that cut/dry either. So the mortgage assistance I highly doubt and no, there's add-on Gov't assistance either. Best luck.

    You mean mortgage assistance like low-interest refinancing loans, which they are having to pay back?

    Food stamps are means-tested, which means you cannot make above a certain amount of money. They do not have a large income.

    Maybe they're going to do the work themselves. Maybe one of their relatives is a contractor. Maybe they just like to plan things.
