Why are the Olympics always sponsored by McDonald's?
I know it's probably just because McDonald's is loaded enough to pay to be the sponsor but still... When the CEO's of a place selling gawd-aweful unhealthy food want to sponsor an event promoting athleticism and health, shouldn't the committee have told them to f*** off? I would have.

McDonald's is one of ten companies that make up The Olympic Partner (TOP) program.
Basically they are worldwide partners. They are a default Olympic sponsors. Not just of any single Olympic Games or any country's team. They can use the Olympic logo (rings) with very few restrictions. Each of these companies paid big bucks for this right. (Note that no two of them compete in the same market. So no Sony because Panasonic is in, no Pepsi because of Coca-Cola, etc.)
But your real question is about the ethics of selling junk food during competition at the highest level, which can't be done by eating junk food. Sure, the International Olympic Committee ought to be a little selective on which companies become a TOP sponsor. But they only see green.
I have no doubt that you would have turned McDonald's away, and maybe Coca-Cola. That would have been the honorable thing to do. All the more reason the International Olympic Committee didn't.

there are many sponsors of the Olympics, not just one.
In fact it is normal for each different sport to be sponsored by a different company.
The IOC wants to make money and they make a huge fortune off the t.v. rights in all countries, along with the sports sponsors, so they really don't care if McDonald's selling crap for hamburgers and fries as long as they are high bidder they are in.

Because one of the Olympic ring colors is GREEN, my son.
Only the biggest, richest, most easily recognizable corportate logo's pony up that kind of money for sponsorship rights.
You have to be a mega-global brand to even get in that stratosphere.........and quite simply........McDonalds qualifies and has that kind of cash.
I am sure the people who run the Olympics to make a profit.......don't care what the sponsors actually sell.............as long as the check clears.
