During high school I took art class ever year but never anything better than 74%, and now I'm 30.?
Since taking art class as elective class every year back then meant about thousands hours of practice, always having C+ or barely made it to B meant talent is more important.
While I did like drawing and doodling back then, people began to say you should draw like the others (who are talented), and eventually I lost interest in doodling for a long time.
Now I got lots of free time at work (it's low paid so...), and I bought a sketch book. But when I picked up a pen(cil), I always feel "compelled" when I try to draw. Should I just give up since I'm 30 and thousands of practice already made no difference?
BTW, 10 000 hours of practice had been debunked so don't use it as argument.

You are out of school, grades make no difference any more, the only reason to draw is because you enjoy it.
It is not clear what you mean by "compelled", compelled to do what?
Practice is only useful if you know how to improve, if you do not know that then you will just repeat your errors. If you cannot identify the error then you need an outside source of help.

Grandma Moses didn't start until a lot later. I recently talked to a very good painter that was a Holocaust survivor. She was 92 and has been painting 4 years, so get with it
