I'm Not Excited About School Starting Tomorrow. What To Do?

I'm the cool playground supervisor, but this year I'm just not excited at all about it. In fact I'm not even sure that I'll show up tomorrow. I'm starting my 8th season.

I've always had great fun with the kids and am to some their hero. They see me in town and shout "Hey, it's Tom Cat!!" They love me and I love them.

But this year I just don't want to do it. I just can't turn it on. The kids who moved on in 2012 and particularly 2013 who I've known since they were babies in K broke my heart One in particular. I grew very close and fond of her and love her whole family.

Also a 3rd grader started a rumor about me being an addict last year and over the Summer told people I followed her home. I had trouble with 2 other kids (ex-friends of my daughters) who don't go to the school.

I love 'entertaining' the kids and getting to know them, but I'm just burnt out on kids. I thought by now I'd be more excited, but I'm dreading it and I don't want to break the kiddies hearts.

How can I get the spark again?

Well while you have enjoyed it...you have reached a point of burn out..

You enjoyed it so much you didn't continue to work on you...

It is easy to form nice bonds with families but remember it is a job...you make them feel safe and you are a pillar in the community...

I'd say at this point you need to hang tight with a different approach...rumors you don't care about you laugh them off....you have done your time and gotten good reviews then move forward...

sub in other areas if possible...you might find some position you like more..

you need to get back to college part time and you need to head to the career center at the community college and move forward for you.....it is slow to start but growth and change is how you will move forward...

look within the school district they may have a better job...

I think you need not worry

I think you need a goal and a plan and to take action for you

Well if you don't want to keep your job than I'd tell your boss that you want to retire and also I'd tell your boss to hire someone else whose just as fun as you are.
