Is benching 45 pounds logical?

I'm a freshman in high school and for PE, we are always in the weight room. We start tommorow and the bare minimum we are to bench is 45 pounds. To some that might not seem like a lot but for me, its a struggle. Being only 75 pounds and 5'2', the bar is almost half my weight. Is it logically for my PE teacher to be making us do this? or is it just way to much to start off with?

I dont want to be embarrased by being the only one in the class who cant lift the 45 pound bar. My teacher is the rude strict kind of guy who is in tip top shape and never smiles.

So is it logical to be benching that much or is it just stupid?

I wouldn't think that would be too much to start with. While people usually start off benching way less than they expect to I have never met someone who can't bench the bar. And you're gonna be a little embarrassed at any gym it's normal. If something is too heavy for you, don't touch it. After a while you'll get into it and it'll be fine. Besides since you're a freshman in high school I doubt anyone has started lifting yet.

I weight 215 pounds out of shape and started benching 105. That's sad. Now I kinda got lazy and kinda out of shape but I weight 195 and bench 275. What I learned from benching is that 60 percent is mental, so don't go in thinking you'll fail, be confident. One thing that helped me was before benching high weight in my mind I would be like, "comon this is easy, it's light weight" I would mentally get ready too. Trust me it might seem hard, go in with confidence and do it. Another advice is breathe when you're doing it, helps a lot.

Don't worry. 45 pounds is just the bar with no added weights. It might seem like a lot but really it's quite light and you'll be able to do it. Each arm has to only push 22.5 pounds and your two arms will help each other so it's like pushing 10-15 pounds with each arm. A warm up set will help you feel more confident and will make you stronger. You can do a few push ups and wait 2 min then do another few then wait again and then try the bar.
