If I start a new job with a contract (UK) does that mean I have to sort out the tax or does my boss?

It's not quite a simple as Blogrot says.

Your new boss will be responsible for deducting tax and insurance from your salary at source, which means before you receive your wages. Any problems before then will be down to you, or your previous boss, who should have given you a P45 when you left which shows what your tax code is, & what has been deducted whilst employed by that company. If you don't hand a P45 to your new boss they will contact the taxation people (HMRC) who will give them a temporary tax code to deduct the tax from your wages. If there are any problems the taxation office will be in touch with you quite quickly especially if you owe any tax from previous employments.

You can go on the internet to Direct Gov.com and that will give you all the latest information on taxation in the UK.

If you are an employee then your eployer sorts out tax and national Insurance.

As a contract is mentioned I suspect you are being asked to be Self Employed on a contract.

If this is so then you need to reads the gov.uk/taxes/self assessment section - this is tricky and you have almost no rights if you agree to this.

If yo uaccept working as a contractor life will be complex and you will be repsonsible.

you do - your boss isn't the one that goes to jail if you don't pay your taxes.
