Does Shimano still make freewheels?

I have several cheap bikes that use freewheels instead of cassettes. Do they still make them, or should I buy some spare ones?

My guess is that the simpler "MTB" ones are still in production, as they are real common on department store bikes and suchlike. But tightly spaced "road" freewheels from Shimano i haven't seen in awhile.

Not that you necessarily have to use the Shimano ones.

Shimano does still make a few freewheels but most of the market is now controlled by Falcon, SunRace, or DNP. ALL freewheels currently made are low end stuff and in general cost less than $25, sometimes as little as $10.

There is no danger of these things going out of production anytime soon since more than 70% of the worlds bicycle production are made for discount stores and half of that production are multispeed and I would guess that 90% of those still use freewheels.

Yes they do. You can go to a bike store, Amazon or eBay. You'll also need a freewheel removal tool or get a bike shop to remove the old one for you.
