Why do a lot of people dislike Lovie Smith?

For a number of reasons:

1) You can't have a head coach named "Lovie" in a city where coaches are called Papa Bear, or Hunk, or Iron Mike. You know, guys with virile names or nicknames. And Smith doesn't look like a head coach; he looks like the manager at a KFC. Ditka looked like a head coach and so did Papa Bear, Pardee, and Wannstadt. Image counts in a blue-collar town like Chicago. Bears fans want tough head coaches and Smith was weak.

2) He was routinely out-coached by top coaches. He could beat the dregs of the league and the crappy HCs but against the best of the best he was always overmatched.

3) He's clueless when it comes to offense, and he couldn't settle on one O-coordinator. That caused a constant struggle on offense and that killed the team.

4) He made curious coaching decisions. Even when the Bears won there were always one or two plays that had you scratching your head.

5) The meltdowns of 2011-12. The Bears were playoff-bound both years but Lovie couldn't make it happen.

6) He pampered his players. Not only did he let Cutler quit on the team in the 2010 NFC Title Game, he made excuses for the punk afterward. A real head coach would have kicked Cutler's @ss back onto the field.

7) He never played pro ball, which is why he pampers the weaklings he brings in to play for him.

8) Bears fans wanted Mike Singeltary for the head coach but they got the guy who cleaned the toilets at Soldier Field instead.

He's a fairly mediocre coach but the media talks about him like he's Vince Lombardi. It's the same reason a lot of people disliked Tebow.

Lovie's career record is pretty comparable to Wade Phillips. No one's comparing Wade Phillips to the greatest coaches of all time. Why does the media like Lovie Smith so much more than Wade Phillips when they have such similar records? What's different about Lovie that makes the media like him so much?

That would be Chicago fans. 10-6 in His last season, wasn't good enough. Trestman, was the savior. by the end of this season, They will be pining for the good old days. better to not win the big one than, never make it there.
