housing benefit?

I own a 2 bed room house in a small town living in it with me wife and three kids, I want to go to London live in a private rented property as an unexpected move/uni transfer of my post graduate supervisor to London left me on a limbo! i cannot afford travelling for over 300 miles each week neither afford to pay rent in london as my house rents for no more than 400 pounds a month in my small town, I have to leave my post graduate education otherwise, any suggestions?

thanks for helping

Update:

my question is can I claim housing benefit ( all or part) towards accommodation in London, please?

If you own a property (anywhere) then you're not eligible for housing benefit (anywhere).

No because you already own a house.

Thanks for the reply! it is a subject with limited research so I only have the option to go to London area.

Change supervisor - happens all the time. Unwelcome? Of course, but you won't be able to get the taxpayer to fund your continued studies with him.
