  • Should more research be done on the genetic disorders of IVF babies?

It is looking as if IVF babies tend to have genetic disorders which will lead to health problems later in life which will shorten their lives.

Do you think that IVF and other methods of non natural conception should be halted until more in known about the possible life sentences of early deaths of the children born using these methods?

I can't think that the stress of knowing that you will have an early death because of the way you were conceived can be good for anyone? It is also possible that the genetic disorder could be passed down to future generations.

  • What defines a scam?

There is a question on Y!A at the moment about one of the UK's terrible universities. One of the ones that should be avoided unless someone wants to end up working in minimum wage hospitality jobs after spending 3 years and getting into debt.

However if you read through the university information it looks wonderful. However it leaves out all the important things that would help you decide if the courses were for you. Important information like most of the jobs would be freelance but you won't get one because you studied at this university and people get work but not what sort of work etc.

The entry requirements are very low so they are trying get people who aren't clever enough to ask the right questions. It is the kind of university that could do with being closed.

I feel it is bordering on a scam and it is not a nice scam because it targets people who are not very smart.

  • This bothers me does it worry you?

In the UK we have a lot of universities that offer qualifications that are called degrees but that are too easy to be of any interest to anyone. What worries me is the effect of the level of debt on people basically conned into thinking that these degrees will help them get a graduate level job when if fact they won't.

There has been a recent example of someone with a degree from one of these low level universities who is unemployed because they can't get a graduate level job but of course that degree from that university is never going to do that and there are lots of degrees from lots of universities like this.

  • How does anyone think you can support air?

I keep seeing the word support used in terms of singing like for example you have to support the air. Just think about this. How do you support air? Can we have a better way of describing this than something that is basically a nonsense statement?

  • What is wrong with people?

What is it this all about? Adults posting videos of themselves playing beginner level studies badly for the benefit of other adults. Why? Is this just a case of huge egos?

  • Do you understand about university education in the UK?

This is for UK parents since the US parents seem to understand this already. When your child is ready for university please make sure that you know the difference between good universities and bad ones.

There are some universities that students who know about the differences will avoid at all costs. However it is extremely difficult as I have just found to get anyone to admit that not all universities are good. There seem to be a lot of vested interests. I don't know how you can find out but maybe someone on Y!A has some ideas?

  • Is this a good school?

This the kind of question that is asked on Y!A from the US. From the UK it is often which university course can I do with these subjects.

What I am interested in knowing is the difference in attitude. The US questioners are really interested in the quality of the education. The UK ones seem to be prepared to go anywhere as long as it is called a university. Why the difference in attitude?

  • Its that "follow your dreams" problem again.?

It seems to be the time for young people to decide what they want to do after high school. Some of them have asked questions about going to the top music college in the US and it is quite obvious that they don't have even the smallest chance of getting a place but have been told to follow their dreams.

Is this really fair on them to have their dreams completely destroyed?

  • Who is responsible for a child's diet?

Is it the child because they eat too much or is it the parent because they supply a poor diet? I ask this question because it appears that in the UK parents are not taking responsibility for children who are obese and have to have some of their first teeth removed because they are rotten due to a high sugar diet.

  • If someone was looking for a music teacher what would you advise?

If someone was looking for a musical instrument teacher in the UK would you advise them to go to someone whose only music qualifications were grades or diplomas?

  • Do you understand the risks invoved?

If you ask for advice about singing on Y!A and you get answers that are opinions or worse just plain wrong, do you understand the risks involved to your voice of following advice that is not based on fact?

  • Opinion on my singing?

If you ask a question about how you sing, do you understand that an opinion from someone who doesn't know anything about singing doesn't mean that it is a true reflection of your singing?

So for example if someone posts a video and asks how well they sing and they get an opinion from someone who has never heard a professional singer singing live at a local venue, this opinion is only from one person who doesn't have anything to compare the singing to so their opinion may not reflect the truth.

There have been several examples in the last week of really bad singers being given opinions not based on fact that they are good singers when in fact they are not.

  • Singing. How to improve?

This type of question is asked several times every day on Y!A. Do you know how to spot the answers containing fact from the answers that contain opinions and from the answers that contain wrong information?

  • Why do people keep insisting that grade 8 is advanced?

I spend a lot of time having to explain to people about grade exams because music teachers refuse to explain properly about these exams.

Why do you think that people refuse to be honest with their pupils before they ask them to spend quite a lot of money taking grade 8 which is an elementary exam?

  • What is social anxiety?

I keep seeing people talking about having social anxiety. What is it? Does it have to be diagnosed by a doctor or mental health professional? What is the difference between social anxiety and low self esteem?

  • 'Souvenirs D'enfance(Childhood Memories' level?

Along with all other pieces of music, this piece is not a level. The way you play it is the level.

For all exams and levels the way you play the music is ALWAYS the level not the written music itself. The music doesn't have a level, but your playing does.

Some music is used to test how well people play it. How well someone plays it is the level not the music.

Is there anyone who still does not understand this?
