2.5 year old Washing machine is causing the circuit to trip out - what is causing this?
Hi
I turned on my 2 and half year old Zanussi washing machine but part way through the wash the electricity circuit tripped out. I reset the circuit by flipping the switch back up and have changed the fuse in the washing machine plug.
However each time I go to turn the washing machine back on the circuit trips out and I have to reset it. It is all fine with the other appliances on, nothing else is causing this to happen just when I turn the washing machine on.
What sort of fault could cause this - is it something I can find and fix myself? It has been fine up to now. Is it most likely the wahing machine or a fault with the circuit?
Thanks in advance for replies.
What could be causing this?

It is the washing machine, but the fault could be electrical or mechanical ,it could be a tight bearing tripping out the breaker ,you need some one who knows what to look for .

It is a fault in your washing machine and it could be caused by a couple of things.
One problem that I ran across once was that the power supply lead had become dislodged from its fixing and started rubbing against the drum support until it removed enough of the insulation and the live wire eventually touched and shorted to earth/ground.
Another was a faulty noise suppression capacitor which failed and shorted out.
Both of those problems were relatively easy to identify and repair, however I have the tools and experience working with electrical machinery.
This really isn't a job for a novice to try to tackle, however that never deterred me when I was younger!
Most problems like this can be easily located by a visual inspection.
Good luck!

sounds like a fault on your machine check wiring inside it but be carefull of the capacitor as you could get a nasty shock even when turned off
