Yes, it's very possible to have a rip or split that you can't see. And from your description, it sounds likely that the contact was damaged in some way. You showed good sense in throwing it away. Wearing a damaged lens is just asking for a corneal abrasion.

So here's the deal, I've been wearing my soft lenses for a while, this particular pair about 2 and a half weeks (I wear Biofinity torics) and I got the oddest, scratchy and itchy feeling yesterday. Not just a sensitive eye feeling (which I do get sometimes; I have a bit of a dryness issue some days). I took the lens out, examined it very thoroughly, and it looked perfect. They were right side out (my lenses you can tell quite obviously it they're inside out, the outward curve is quite dramatic). So I rubbed them with solution just in case, and let them soak for a few hours. Tried to put them back in, same problem.

So I did what any sane person would do and just tossed them, even though it's quite early in the schedule to do so. Opened a new pair, and they feel perfect.

So, what I'm wondering, is it possible to have a rip a soft lens that's not visible to the naked eye? (I did have a bit of trouble getting the lenses out the other day. I had a hand issue going on). Or should I be concerned that maybe my eyes can't handle monthly lenses, and maybe I should ask my doc about biweeklies instead?

Oh, other information that may be relevant. I've bee wearing lenses for about 4 months now. My primary cleaning solution is Clear Care. But I also use Opti-free Puremoist if I need to soak/clean/store them in between 6 hr cleanings. I use Refresh band rewetting drops. I change my lens case out with my lenses every month. And I'm very paranoid about proper hygiene when dealing with my lenses.

    Thanks guys.

First, your query does not belong in the photography forum; but, yes, and it might have a scratch along the edges that will irritate and possibly cause an abrasion on the surface of your eye's natural lens, will hurt and can get infected. IF you have any doubt, see your ophthalmologist at once. Better safe than terribly sorry.
