Definitions of US Army personnel terms?

What are the differences between and definitions of enlisted man, NCO, and commissioned officer in regards to the US Army? During times of conscription, were draftees considered enlisted and/or NCOs?

Technically, enlisted encompasses all ranks from E-1 to E-9. NCOs are a subset of that, ranging from E-4 (corporal, not specialist) to E-9 (with Senior NCOs being E-7 to E-9).

Back in the days of the draft, you came in as an E-1 unless you met whatever qualifications they had to come in a grade or two higher, just like today. Just like a volunteer, you had to work your way up to the NCO ranks. My dad was drafted in Vietnam and worked his way up from E-1 to E-5 (sergeant), however, there was pretty much no way he was going about E-5 as a one-enlistment draftee (mostly because he was only in for 2 years).
