I have a couple of suggestions. Maybe place the feeders near a tree or bush, so that the birds might escape quickly into hiding if they become startled. Offer water as well, they need both, especially in warm climate. Have them far enough the house that they are not scared to come too close. Black oiled sunflower seeds offer the most fat content, also try Niger seed, suet feeders, peanut butter feeders, even raw peanuts. Wild birds will take 80% of their required food from nature, but still appreciate a feeder nearby, during nesting season especially. Keep trying, they will come.
