What is the 'Third Beast' (Christianity)?

I am doing a music video project for my A-level media work, and the song I have chosen references 'Tertius Bestia' (Latin for 'The Third Beast') and looking it up and using other clues in the lyrics I have determined that it is something from the bible (Revelations 6:5, I think. It is also called 'The third creature' in other versions of the bible) and would like some help in understanding what this really means. I understand that it has something to do with the apocalypse and judgement, but is this literal? Does it have other meanings?

As an Atheist I'm obviously not very well versed in biblical literature and have no experience interpreting and understanding religious text, and would really appreciate any help.

The third is one of four. These beings are always around the Throne of God, praising Him eternally. Don't confuse them with The Beast, (or AntiChrist) and the False Prophet, also described as "a second beast".

I read (and translated from Latin) the lyrics you refer to. And I suspect they are referring to the third being (or beast/creature/angel) of Revelation 6:5. (There is no 's' on the end of Revelation; there is only one Revelation and that is of Jesus Christ.)

Anyway, the story in end times Revelation consists of evil represented by three figures: the Anti-Christ, the False Prophet and Satan. They are referred to as the "unholy trinity" because their ringleader, Lucifer, aka Satan, who was once an angel, rebelled against God because he wanted to BE God, as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Since the very beginning of creation, evil has been present in this world.

In Revelation 6 one of God's beings, also referred to as angels or beasts, commands a particular type of punishment to come upon the earth: the rider on the black horse who has a scale in his hands. This rider is one of four who together are called "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse". The scale the black horseman holds and the statement he makes represents extreme financial inflation coming upon the earth, when it will cost a ridiculous amount of money to buy just a little grain to eat.

And in the next scene we see the impact of inflation because of the appearance of the fourth horseman, the rider on the pale horse, which represents death upon mankind.

And by the way, the first horseman, the rider on the white horse, carries a bow but no arrows and wears a crown. This represents a world leader who will be such a slick talker and so popular that he will become the leader of the entire world without ever needing an army- but he is evil itself, imitating and mimicking Jesus Christ, Who Satan wishes to be like. But instead of keeping peace, the white horseman breaks all promises resulting in the appearance of the second horse,

The rider on the red horse represents war- world war- during which many people die either as a direct result of the war or die because of consequences of war like famine because of crop failure or die because of disease, robbery and all the atrocities that are results of war.

In Revelation 19 Jesus Christ returns, conquering evil once and for all, and He reigns upon earth, into eternity. Those who know Jesus Christ live with God for eternity in heaven and those who do not know Him live in hell for eternity. And in Revelation 19:4 the beast/creature/angel is mentioned again as worshipping God on the Throne.

If you decide to read Revelation, read the Gospel of John first so that you will understand why it is important that you know Jesus Christ before the end times are upon us. I think BatAAr seems to be mentally and spiritually wrestling with God and what Revelation means also.

Here is a good site that describes the angels/creatures/beasts:

Hmmm...Zach & Lynn bring up an interesting point. There are two possible interpretations:

a - the "third beast" of the four beasts that are servants of God and are near his throne (normally these beasts are identified as cherubim)

b - the "third evil symbolic beast" that instigates Armageddon, identified by The Book of Revelation as the False Prophet

I would guess that [b] is probably the one referenced, as the [a] 4 beasts (cherubim) of God's throne room are typically not numbered separately. See Zach & Lynn's answer if you think it refers to the third cherub, and also look at the Wikipedia article on cherubim.

The three "evil symbolic" beasts of Revelation are these:

1 - the Dragon, symbolizing Satan

2 - the second Beast, identified in Revelation as simply "the Beast", symbolizing the Antichrist

3 - the third beast, symbolizing the False Prophet

Together these have been called "the unholy trinity" though, in fact, they are not a trinity at all.

Basically, the story of these 3 evil symbolic beasts as described in Revelation is this:

    - Satan (#1, the Dragon) fights a battle against the heavenly forces and loses

    - Satan is imprisoned in a "pit" or "abyss" for 1,000 years

    - - during that 1,000 years, Jesus reigns on Earth - this is called "the Millennium" and is a sort of paradise on Earth

    - the Beast (#2, the Antichrist) appears, conquers the World and worships Satan

    - The False Prophet (#3) works miracles in Satan's name, persuading most of the World's population into worshiping Satan

    - The Beast (#2) in the meantime suffers a mortal head injury but miraculously survives

    - He also outlaws Christianity, and a "mark" ("666" or "616") is required for anyone to legally make purchases

    - Later we are informed that **all 3 beasts** are spirit beings (demons), and that the Antichrist and the False Prophet are people possessed by 2 of those demons

    - Eventually, Satan returns, assembles an army to destroy Christianity, is defeated by Godly forces, and all 3 evil beasts are consigned to eternal punishment in "the lake of fire"

It all reverts back to this

Rev 4:6 And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.

Rev 4:7 And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle.

Rev 4:8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.

Rev 4:9 And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever,

This is a continuation of the four "beasts" in the OT that represented the twelve tribes of Israel. They are Gods faithful and true Hebrew servants.

    Ezekiel also saw the vision

Eze 1:4 ¶ And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire.

Eze 1:5 Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man.

Eze 1:6 And every one had four faces, and every one had four wings.

Eze 1:7 And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calf's foot: and they sparkled like the colour of burnished brass.

Eze 1:8 And they had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides; and they four had their faces and their wings.

Eze 1:9 Their wings were joined one to another; they turned not when they went; they went every one straight forward.

Eze 1:10 As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle.

Eze 1:11 Thus were their faces: and their wings were stretched upward; two wings of every one were joined one to another, and two covered their bodies.

Eze 1:12 And they went every one straight forward: whither the spirit was to go, they went; and they turned not when they went.

Eze 1:13 As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, and like the appearance of lamps: it went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning.

Eze 1:14 And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning.
