Snake in my front yard!!?
So as my mom walked to the car today she yelled my name and pointed at the bushes, as i walk closer i see a long grey snake on top getting sun. I tried hitting it but it got away and now i can't find it. I have a two year old son who plays outside a lot. I walked around the bushes for a little bit making noise and hitting the fence to see if it would run out but its no where. What should i do??????!!!!!!

Leave the poor thing alone, the chances are it was a harmless grey rat snake, and venomous snakes wont bother you unless they are harrassed. Most people who get bitten are the idiots who are trying to catch or kill the snake. Snakes play an important role in the natural balance of the area, and are excellent vermin control (people have a lot more to fear from rats and mice). Make sure you watch where you tread outside in snake country, teach your kids to leave snakes well alone, and you shouldn't have a problem

Hey juan! i have an answer to your question, the snake you found is most likely a gray rat snake (or oak snake) and is completely harmless and they love to hunt rats and mice so killing it wouldn't be a good idea unless you like disease ridden rodents :) I live up in canada across from michigan but i have been to florida and already know most snake species there, do not worry and for godsake don't try to hit it again and learn more about snakes in your region so you don't kill any harmless snakes, not saying you should kill venomous ones either if you find a venomous snake just stay away from it and call florida fish and game department.

Welcome to the tropics. Check the yard daily, each time before your son goes out to play. Teach you children to get an adult if they see a snake. And learn about the snakes in your area.
Most snakes will run away from humans, because we are just too big to eat. Although being in Florida you have escaped pythons to contend with and that is a worry.
If you see a snake make loud noises, hit near by bushes to drive the animal away, warn neighbors. Pick up any pet food outside, and control the rodent population, don't feed the birds. Keep you yard free of snake food, and that will help keep most snakes away.

Next time take a picture and ask animal control. It won't be there again until it wants to Sun. I'd say don't worry, but I'm not familiar with florida snakes. I can tell you this, hitting it does no earthly good.
