In the ROTC program, will I be required to serve during summers?
Will I be given time off during the programs in college? I imagine once I commit 4-8 years after college, I'll owe them summers then too as well. But any info would help. I'm only 17 and thinking of joining

there will be obligations every summer.. usually field operations or other purely military training.. NROTC for instance you will spend summers on ships or in Air Squadrons getting hands on stuff.
once you commission you are on the job 24/7/365. You may go 2-3 years without being able to take any leave at all, only getting a federal holiday here or there 'off'

You will be busy most summers- but not for the whole time. For Army ROTC I:
Summer of Sophomore-Junior yr:- 4 wks training Ft Knox, 2 wks training Vermont
Summer of Junior-Senior: 5 wks in Washington state, 3 weeks in Georgia
You get 30 days of leave/yr. The Army usually has block leave periods twice a year in which it's pretty easy to take some time off. It's a pretty good gig when you aren't always deploying.
