Hello Yahoo friends, I have a question for you, If someone was to began to start a house cleaning business, do they need a license?
And if they do, should it be as soon as they start getting clients? Thank you.

A business license is a means for the city you are in to collect taxes so besides paying tax to the feds and the state, you also pay taxes to the city. Cities and towns check all businesses they can find to be sure they have business licenses. If you do not have a "store front" or public exposure that you are a business you can probably get along without one. If the city catches you then sign up for one.

Depends on where you are! Some cities do not even issue business licenses.
You should have liability insurance for your company though. You clean a carpet, the carpet gets damaged during the process ... you could be held liable in civil court for the damages. No insurance, you would pay the damages out of pocket.

You may need to, especially when you are doing some sort of special types of cleaning requiring certifications in such areas as Hazmat and use and handling of certain chemicals. You may also be required to be bonded as well.

if you are doing it as business then you need several of them, along with being bonded and insured....you will need these before you get clients [ESPECIALLY if you state you are insured etc and are not]

Hang on while I call your City Hall and find out. Oh, wait. I have no clue where you live so maybe you could do it.
