Dropping out of college to enlist?
I know I should talk to my parents and those who know me well about this but I want a general opinion first. I'm a freshman in college who's also in Army ROTC (MS1). I am not motivated to continue college even if I am doing well so far. I am undeclared and I have no inclinations to which major to choose or what career to purse after 4 years. AROTC has been great but I want more in life and more challenges. Being in this little island of Guam makes me feel restricted and shortchanged. I was thinking about enlisting in the Army and take some years off from school to get my mind and life straightened out. My original choice was to join the Air Force but I am weak with STEM courses and not much of a mathematical/scientific person. Opinions?

The problem is that you are not challenging yourself. You want your career to be laid out for you. You do well in college, but are you really challenging yourself in your studies. Are you breaking through convention or are you just following the rules?
The military is even more restricted. It's hierarchical and your career is determined through a serious of tests. There really is little creative freedom in that career. And there are a lot of rules.
There is nothing restricting about being on Guam. Guam is a gateway to Asia, where there a lot of opportunities. The most challenging thing is to see opportunities and potential where there aren't.
If you don't want to challenge yourself on Guam, then obviously you should drop out and go somewhere else where your life is laid out in front of you.
Don't drop out of college, maybe you should take a break from ROTC and explore other areas.

I was a senior in college with a 3.4 gpa and dropped out to join the military. BEST decision I've ever made. I make more money now than I would've in the civilian world with the bachelors degree I was going for, and I get to live in awesome places. I'm just now starting to finish my bachelors degree, and I have two years left on my contract. I do believe I will do the full 20 years and retire, then I'll use my bachelors degree. however, I wouldnt recommend the Army to my worst enemy. Air Force or Coast Guard if you can make a 75+ on the ASVAB. Good luck!

You should go ahead and try the army and see if you'd enjoy it more. You can always go back to school later on. But just the same, do read this about this college education, http://bitly.com/TxWTRi .

Why don't you stay in college, join ROTC and get the military to pay for your school, dummy?
Then when you're done your salary will be twice as much.
