Job was the most righteous man upon Earth in his day, and the Lord God asked what Satan thought about Job's Loyalty, and Satan replied: he's only faithfull to you because you protect him so very much, at which Almighty God allowed Satan to attack Job despite his Righteousness in order that Satan May test Jobs Loyalty to Almighty God under extreme duress! But there was also another purpose! Job for all of his Righteousness needed a lesson from God to show him that Job did Not even own his own decency and righteousness but rather all goodness belongs to Almighty God, and of ourselves we have None whatsoever.

Job is an example for all of us. He answered the question - do people serve God only because of the blessings that they get from him, or because they really love him? Through the account of Job, we learn that Satan has accused all humans of this kind of shallow allegiance with God. He said:

“Is it for nothing that Job has feared God?+ 10 Have you not put up a protective hedge around him and his house and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his livestock has spread out in the land. 11 But, for a change, stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your very face.” - Job 1:9-11

Later, when Job did NOT curse God after losing his possessions and his family, Satan claimed

“Skin for skin. A man will give everything that he has for his life.* 5 But, for a change, stretch out your hand and strike his bone and flesh, and he will surely curse you to your very face.” - Job 2:4-5

By saying "A man" he is saying that every man, actually every human would abandon service to God if he loses his health. Job lost his health, and he still did not curse God.

Job, who was blameless from God's standpoint (some translations wrongly called him perfect) proved that a child of Adam can serve God because he loves his God, not because of what he gets from his God.

This is the kind of love and devotion that God wants from all of us - in fact, his son Jesus stated that the greatest and first commandment is "He said to him: “‘You must love Jehovah* your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul* and with your whole mind.’+ 38 This is the greatest and first commandment. - Matthew 22:37-38
