Who do I decide who dies in a Zombie Apocalypse short story?

I'm writing a short story about me and a group of my friends surviving the zombie apocalypse, but I have this feeling that keeping all six of us alive at the end is nice but unrealistic.

We've each got very realistic skills that would help in the survival but I'm very close to all of my friends: how do I decide which to kill off?

Some times you just have to roll the dice and pick at random. That's kinda how life is. You never know when you're gonna go. Alternatively, you could kill off the one closest to the main character to really change up the dynamic of the group.

That;s a tough decision if you are all close friends. Think of the most useless one. The one who doesn't contribute to the story that much. The main character should stay alive though.

Maybe make it a twist. Make it the most unexpected death. BOOM! (Billy get's bit and falls off a 20 story building))

You need to step up and grow a spine and be the writer here. Who lives and who dies is up to the creator, and that's you. Wield the power and smite who you will.
