short till at work?

Okay, so I've been working as a cashier for two weeks now. Ive had my training and I have been on my own for flourish days. The first two days i was on my own I wasn't short. And the last two days sat and sun I was short 19.94 and 19.95. To me those are weird numbers. And I don't feel like I have made a mistake. The first day it happens one of the ladies told me to be extra careful. On Sunday I was, I counted my money out and everything. But I was still short. No one ever told me how much cash is supposed to be there when I start. So, its confusing. What are the other variables.

  • At my work place, they typically leave about $100 to start in the till which they call a float. You may want to ask to be sure how much you're supposed to start out with in your float. That is an odd number to be short of. Be care full with short changers that want to exchange money saying that they gave you a different amount to begin with then wanting a larger amount back. It could have been from some one getting change for their till and not giving the money over to your till. Or if some one else was on your register they could have not counted correctly or some one could have used it to pay for some thing or stuffing the petty cash (if you have it) both of which is technically stealing.

You may get written up if it continues to happen so do try to be extra care full. If it keeps happening see if there is a way to report it.
